VASA 2020 Symposium: Call for Abstracts

The Program Committee and VASA Board of Directors invite you to submit a scientific abstract for the VASA Dialysis Access Symposium XVII to be held at the Charleston Marriott Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina May 28-30, 2020. The success of the VASA biennial symposium has been largely due to the many high-quality, novel scientific abstracts submitted and selected for presentation. We welcome abstracts on any & all topics related to dialysis access, including but not limited to: surgical access procedures, percutaneous interventions, planning & preparation for dialysis access, peritoneal dialysis, venous hemodialysis catheters, vascular access coordination, dialysis nursing, cannulation, public policy, outcomes, & cost-effectiveness. All abstracts submitted should be original; materials previously published or presented will not be considered, unless there is significant new data or analysis to report.

Abstracts may only be submitted electronically; follow the instructions below to access the submission portal and submit your abstract. We encourage you to submit your own work or to encourage the work of a colleague.

The submission deadline is December 6, 2019.

Submission Portal Instructions:

  • Click on:
  • Click on Create New Account to register an account.
  • Enter your email address, password and confirm password. Click the Create Account button. CATALYST will be send you a “Confirm your account” email.
  • Click on the turquoise button in your email labeled, “Confirm Account.” A pop-up will appear stating, “Thank you for confirming your email.”
  • Click on the “Please click here to login.” Once logged in, you will be in edit mode of your submission.
  • Complete all the required fields on all the tabs.
  • Click “Save,” on the bottom right of your screen as necessary. *If required fields are missing data, you will see the missing data tabs indicated with a red triangle.
  • Click “Submit” on the bottom right of your screen when you are ready to submit your abstract.
 If you have any technical issues, please click on “Contact CATALYST Support,” at the bottom of the log in page or “Support” at the top of the page once logged in.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

The system will allow you to designate a contact author. As such, this will be the main point of contact for information regarding this submission. Additional authors must also may be entered. If you are the only author, you will need to complete the additional author section with your information.
When entering your abstract text, do not include title or authors in this text. After you enter the text of your abstract. Once the abstract text is saved, you will be given the opportunity to add a graphic or table to this submission. IMPORTANT: No reference should be made in or on the abstract to the name of the authors or institutions. Failure to follow this guideline will result in the abstract being excluded from Review by the Program Committee.

Abstracts are limited to 2,000 characters maximum which does not include title and graphics (spaces are not counted). Please structure your abstract as follows:
  • Objectives: A brief statement of the purpose of the study and the current state of research in the field.
  • Methods: The methods of study or experimental approach clearly, but briefly, defined. Results: A summary of the results of the study, including sufficient details to support those conclusions. These may be presented in a brief table.
