In Memoriam: Prof. Seiji Ohira

The Vascular Access Society of Americas is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Prof. Seiji Ohira on September 5, 2017. He was 78.

Professor Ohira was one of the active members of the Japanese Society of Dialysis Access (JSDA). He served as the president of the organization. He was instrumental in developing multinational collaborations in the field of vascular access. Under his leadership JSDA developed a MOU with VASA to further collaborations to mutually benefit patient care and research.

Professor Ohira was a well- known vascular access surgeon practicing in Kita-Ku ward in the city of Sapporo in the Hokkaido prefecture of Japan. He chaired the panel that developed the Japanese Society for Vascular Therapies Guidelines for vascular access. He authored multiple manuscripts related to the field of vascular access and was a key opinion leader in the field.

The loss of Prof. Ohira is weighing heavy on our hearts. He was a great friend of VASA, dedicated vascular access surgeon, and an excellent teacher. VASA is grateful for his devotion, leadership and pioneering spirit. He will long be remembered as a leader in the field of vascular access.
