PRESIDENT Marc H. Glickman, MD Vascular Surgery Virginia Beach, Virginia

Marc Glickman, President of VASA, one of the founding board members of the society practices vascular surgery in Southeastern Virginia. He is director and chief of Vascular Services for SENTARA Health Care and a faculty member of the Eastern Virginia Medical School. Dr. Glickman graduated from Case Western Reserve University, finished his residency at the University of Washington in Seattle Washington and completed his vascular fellowship in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Glickman has published extensively on vascular and hemodialysis access and has written several chapters in books on this subject. He has lectured as well throughout the world on this topic. His interests include new designs and concepts for dialysis grafts as well as improving outcomes in av access.

PRESIDENT-ELECT Mitchell L. Henry, MD Transplant Surgery Columbus, Ohio

Mitchell L. Henry, MD is a Professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Medicine, Chief of the Division of Transplant Surgery and Deputy Director for Surgical Services within the Comprehensive Transplant Center at OSU. He is a member of the Department of Surgery at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, He also serves as Medical Director for Lifeline of Ohio Organ Procurement. He is the president-elect of the Vascular Access Society of the Americas (VASA) and Secretary of the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). Dr. Henry’s research interests include immunosuppressive therapies, pancreas and liver transplantation, pulsatile perfusion and xenotransplantation.

Howard E. Katzman, MD General & Vascular Surgery Miami, Florida

Dr. Katzman received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1964. He completed residency training in general and vascular surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital University of Miami Department of Surgery in 1971 and joined The Surgical Group of Miami at that time. Dr. Katzman is certified by The American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of The American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Society of Vascular Surgery and a Fellow of the Clinical Society of Vascular surgery. Dr. Katzman has been a lead investigator and participant in several clinical research efforts related to the development of vascular graft materials used in a variety of vascular surgery applications. He is a Founder and board member of the Vascular Access Society of the Americas, past president of the Florida Vascular Society and speaks at national and international vascular surgery programs. His major interest in vascular surgery are both open and endovascular repair procedures of the aorta and distal vessels and complex dialysis access reconstruction.

Theodore F. Saad, MD Interventional Nephrology Newark, Delaware
|
Dr. Saad is an interventional nephrologist in private practice in Wilmington and Newark Delaware. He is attending physician at the Christiana Care Health System and St. Francis Hospital. His practice is focused on the management of venous and arteriovenous hemodialysis access, particularly native arteriovenous fistulae. He completed his medical, internal medicine, and nephrology training at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Subsequently he served in the United States Air Force as a nephrologist in San Antonio, Texas, and then at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where he was an assistant professor of medicine and medical director of dialysis services. Dr. Saad is Past-President of the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology. He is has participated for many years in the American Society of Nephrology Post-Graduate Course in Interventional Nephrology. Dr Saad has been very active at both the local and national level in promoting optimal hemodialysis vascular access through education and clinical research.

Surendra Shenoy, MD, PhD Transplant & Vascular Access Surgery St. Louis, Missouri
|
Dr. Surendra Shenoy is Professor of Surgery at the Washington University School of Medicine at St. Louis. He completed medical training and general surgery residency at the Kasturba Medical College in India. He was subsequently awarded a Ph.D. at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi for his research related to portal hypertension. He went on to specialize in abdominal organ transplantation surgery at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
Dr. Shenoy is Director of the Living Donor Transplantation Program in the Section of Abdominal Organ Transplantation at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He is principal investigator for several clinical research projects related to abdominal organ transplantation. His research involves evaluation of novel methods of post transplant immune suppression. His clinical interests include optimizing living donor transplantation techniques and dialysis access surgery. He was instrumental in developing a novel open living donor nephrectomy technique called the “Mini Nephrectomy”.
Dr. Shenoy serves on committees related to the ‘Fistula First’ initiative and ESRD Networks to improve dialysis access care. He is a founder member and serves on the Board of VASA. He has authored over 75 scientific articles in peer reviewed medical journals and contributed several book chapters. He has been invited to present and discuss his work in transplantation and vascular access at many national and international meetings.

Thomas M. Vesely, MD Interventional Radiology St. Louis, Missouri

Thomas Vesely, M.D. has been an interventional radiologist for nearly twenty years. He graduated from Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota and completed his residency training in diagnostic radiology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. Dr. Vesely underwent fellowship training in interventional radiology at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology and then joined the medical school faculty at the Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis, Missouri. Dr. Vesely has written over 70 scientific publications and is a frequent lecturer at national medical meetings.
Dr. Vesely is currently in private practice at the Vascular Access Center of Frontenac Grove located in a suburb of Saint Louis. |

Samuel E. Wilson, MD General & Vascular Surgery Orange, California
|
Samuel E. Wilson, MD, is Professor of Surgery at the University of California, Irvine. A native of Ireland, Dr. Wilson completed his undergraduate and medical school education at Wayne State University in Detroit.
From Michigan, he moved west to the Los Angeles County General—University of Southern California Hospital for internship. He subsequently received his training in general surgery at the Wadsworth Veterans Administration Medical Center, UCLA Medical Center and Childrens Hospital, Los Angeles. After 2 years in the U.S. Air Force as a surgeon, he returned to UCLA to join the faculty, working primarily at the Wadsworth VA and UCLA Medical Centers. In 1982, Dr. Wilson became chair of the Department of Surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. In 1992, Dr. Wilson moved to Orange County to serve as chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of California, Irvine until 2005, when he began a term as Associate Dean. Dr. Wilson is board-certified in general and vascular surgery, and maintains an active surgical practice, with a strong interest in vascular access procedures.
Dr. Wilson has a long-standing professional commitment to clinical research. He has published extensively on the management of vascular disease and vascular access including the text Vascular Access; Principles and Practice now in the fifth edition. He has also participated as a chairperson in 3 national cooperative trials in peripheral vascular disease. Overall, Dr. Wilson has published over 400 articles and 12 textbooks.
