PRESIDENT Mitchell L. Henry, MD Transplant Surgery Columbus, Ohio
|
Mitchell L. Henry, MD is a Professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Medicine, Chief of the Division of Transplant Surgery and Deputy Director for Surgical Services within the Comprehensive Transplant Center at OSU. He is a member of the Department of Surgery at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, He also serves as Medical Director for Lifeline of Ohio Organ Procurement. He is the president-elect of the Vascular Access Society of the Americas (VASA) and Secretary of the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). Dr. Henry’s research interests include immunosuppressive therapies, pancreas and liver transplantation, pulsatile perfusion and xenotransplantation.

PRESIDENT-ELECT Thomas M. Vesely, MD Interventional Radiology St. Louis, Missouri
|
Thomas Vesely, M.D. has been an interventional radiologist for nearly twenty years. He graduated from Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota and completed his residency training in diagnostic radiology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. Dr. Vesely underwent fellowship training in interventional radiology at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology and then joined the medical school faculty at the Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis, Missouri. Dr. Vesely has written over 70 scientific publications and is a frequent lecturer at national medical meetings.
Dr. Vesely is currently in private practice at the Vascular Access Center of Frontenac Grove located in a suburb of Saint Louis.

IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT Marc H. Glickman, MD Vascular Surgery Virginia Beach, Virginia

Marc Glickman, President of VASA, one of the founding board members of the society practices vascular surgery in Southeastern Virginia. He is director and chief of Vascular Services for SENTARA Health Care and a faculty member of the Eastern Virginia Medical School. Dr. Glickman graduated from Case Western Reserve University, finished his residency at the University of Washington in Seattle Washington and completed his vascular fellowship in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Glickman has published extensively on vascular and hemodialysis access and has written several chapters in books on this subject. He has lectured as well throughout the world on this topic. His interests include new designs and concepts for dialysis grafts as well as improving outcomes in av access.

SECOND VICE PRESIDENT Surendra Shenoy, MD, PhD Transplant & Vascular Access Surgery St. Louis, Missouri
|
Dr. Surendra Shenoy is Professor of Surgery at the Washington University School of Medicine at St. Louis. He completed medical training and general surgery residency at the Kasturba Medical College in India. He was subsequently awarded a Ph.D. at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi for his research related to portal hypertension. He went on to specialize in abdominal organ transplantation surgery at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
Dr. Shenoy is Director of the Living Donor Transplantation Program in the Section of Abdominal Organ Transplantation at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He is principal investigator for several clinical research projects related to abdominal organ transplantation. His research involves evaluation of novel methods of post transplant immune suppression. His clinical interests include optimizing living donor transplantation techniques and dialysis access surgery. He was instrumental in developing a novel open living donor nephrectomy technique called the “Mini Nephrectomy”.
Dr. Shenoy serves on committees related to the ‘Fistula First’ initiative and ESRD Networks to improve dialysis access care. He is a founder member and serves on the Board of VASA. He has authored over 75 scientific articles in peer reviewed medical journals and contributed several book chapters. He has been invited to present and discuss his work in transplantation and vascular access at many national and international meetings.

SECRETARY Theodore F. Saad, MD Interventional Nephrology Newark, Delaware
|
Dr. Saad is an interventional nephrologist in private practice in Wilmington and Newark Delaware. He is attending physician at the Christiana Care Health System and St. Francis Hospital. His practice is focused on the management of venous and arteriovenous hemodialysis access, particularly native arteriovenous fistulae. He completed his medical, internal medicine, and nephrology training at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Subsequently he served in the United States Air Force as a nephrologist in San Antonio, Texas, and then at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where he was an assistant professor of medicine and medical director of dialysis services. Dr. Saad is Past-President of the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology. He is has participated for many years in the American Society of Nephrology Post-Graduate Course in Interventional Nephrology. Dr Saad has been very active at both the local and national level in promoting optimal hemodialysis vascular access through education and clinical research.

Brian graduated from Duquensne University's School of Nursing in May of 2001. Brian began working with Nephrology patients needing CVVHD while working as a staff nurse on the Liver Transplant Unit at the University of Pittsburgh in 2001. Brian continued his career as a dialysis staff nurse, charge nurse, educator, and nurse manager from 2002 thru 2006. Brian began working for Vascular Access Centers as a Clinical Specialist in 2006 and received his MBA from Waynesburg University in 2010. Brian is a member and Past President of ANNA 3 Rivers Chapter, Penn Del CKD Coalition Fistula First Subcommittee, allied health member of ASDIN, and active volunteer for the NKF. Brian is currently the Director of Continuing Education for Vascular Access Centers, where he develops and implements accredited educational programs for Nephrology Nurses. Brian hopes the programs have a positive effect on the lives on Dialysis Patients in need of access care. |

Prabir Roy-Chaudhury, MD, Ph.D Nephrology Cincinnati, OH
|
Dr Roy-Chaudhury is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at the University of Cincinnati. He graduated from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, India and did his doctoral studies at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. He received his internal medicine and nephrology training at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland and at Beth Israel Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston.
Dr Roy-Chaudhury’s main research interest is in the pathogenesis and treatment of vascular stenosis and neointimal hyperplasia, especially in the setting of hemodialysis vascular access dysfunction. Dr Roy-Chaudhury’s emphasis is on translational research and he currently directs the multi-disciplinary Cincinnati Dialysis Access Program, which includes basic science and clinical trial research in the setting of dialysis vascular access stenosis, together with an active interventional nephrology program. In addition, he continues to work as a clinical transplant nephrologist at the University of Cincinnati.
Dr Roy-Chaudhury has published over 100 peer reviewed scientific papers and book chapters and has lectured extensively in this area both nationally and internationally. His research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Veterans Administration and through industry support.
Dr Roy-Chaudhury is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Vascular Access Society of the Americas, a Councilor of the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology and a member of the Interventional Nephrology Advisory Group of the American Society of Nephrology. He is also a member of the Vascular Access Advisory Panel and the Medical Review Board of the Renal Network and a Trustee of the Kidney Foundation of Greater Cincinnati.

Haimanot Wasse, MD, MPH Nephrology Atlanta, GA

Dr. Wasse is an interventional nephrologist at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. She was awarded a M.P.H. at the University of Washington School of Public Health and Community Medicine, and subsequently completed medical training, residency and renal fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Dr. Wasse’s research examines the impact of dialysis vascular access on the cardiovascular system and the pathobiology of vascular access stenosis. She is the principal investigator on grants awarded by the National Institutes of Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Dr. Wasse collaborates with investigators at the Rollins School of Public Health and is a co-investigator of the USRDS Special Studies Center at Emory University. She is currently Vice-Chair of the Clinical Practice Committee of the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology, Chair-Elect of the American Federation for Medical Research, Southern Section Council, and a member of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases Imagining Section, Georgia Medical Care Foundation, and the Southeastern Kidney Council.
