PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Glickman Photograph

Welcome to the VASA new website!  This is our introduction to the community for our young society.  The Vascular Access Society of the America's Mission is: Caring, teaching, learning and leading in vascular access and dialysis.

As I travel and lecture throughout the nation, I have noticed a continued growth and interest in the field of vascular access. VASA is committed to creating and maintaining excellence in the field.

Our values allow us to make the commitment in several fields. We offer commitments to excellence in the following areas of access care:

Education ~ We believe lifelong learning is our foundation;
Leadership ~ We lead through example and mentoring;
Innovation ~ We believe in advancing what we do in a creative manner;
Quality ~ Caring is the cornerstone of our profession.

Our Board is multi-specialty and we are the only society that believes in a multi-discipline approach to the care of the access patient. Our Board is comprised of Interventional Nephrologists, Nephrologists, Vascular, General and Transplant Surgeons, and Interventional Radiologists. We believe through a multispecialty approach, that the care for our patients will only succeed.

VASA offers several programs. We have the Biennial Scientific Meeting. Next year's Vascular Access for Hemodialysis 12th Symposium will be held May 12-14, 2010 in Las Vegas. For the first time, we are offering scholarships to young investigators in the field of vascular access. This idea is to promote a new generation of physicians interested in access surgery, maintenance and research. We also, have a biennial, Hands-On Practicum to teach not only the fundamentals of access surgery and access maintenance, but to provide new and innovative approaches to the patient who needs a vascular access.

Our new website will offer  a "Members Only" area to blog and to ask the “experts” questions about any area of access management and creation.  This new area is extremely exciting and provides another benefit for our patients.  Please visit the New and Improved Website area to learn more about what VASA will offer its members.

Over the next several months, VASA will be developing criteria for educating physicians in the management and creation of accesses. We think that this will provide significant benefits for our future generation of physicians.

VASA’s Board Members are busy in creating several new projects and we will be asking our membership to help in these areas. If you get a call or an email to volunteer your services, please help us out so that our Society can continue to grow and fulfill its mission.

Again, I want to welcome new members to VASA and I thank all of our members who support our Society.

Sincerely,

Marc Glickman, MD
